Shaping global discussions in digital development
Since 2010, the Broadband Commission has been actively participating in key United Nations initiatives and conferences, working to elevate broadband to the forefront of the international policy agenda.
High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)
The HLPF is the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. It is the apex of the architecture for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda established by the 2030 Agenda and General Assembly resolution 70/299.
WSIS Outcomes
The annual World Summit on the Information Society Forum is a global multistakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development, organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD, in close collaboration with all WSIS Action Line co-/facilitators and other UN organizations. It provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies.
UN Global Digital Compact
Following the political declaration adopted at the occasion of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary, the Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda proposed a Global Digital Compact to be agreed at the Summit of the Future in September 2024 through a technology track involving all stakeholders. The Global Digital Compact is expected to “outline shared principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all”.
5th Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5)
The LDC5, held in 2022 and 2023, aimed to accelerate sustainable development in the world’s most vulnerable nations. This ten-year roadmap, the Doha Programme of Action, seeks to achieve the SDGs by 2030 through economic diversification, climate adaptation, and strong governance. By mobilizing international support and collaboration, LDC5 established a crucial step towards a more equitable future for all.
Transforming Education Summit
The Transforming Education Summit was convened in response to a global crisis in education – one of equity and inclusion, quality and relevance. The Summit provided a unique opportunity to elevate education to the top of the global political agenda and to mobilize action, ambition, solidarity and solutions to recover pandemic-related learning losses and sow the seeds to transform education in a rapidly changing world.
