The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), through its outcome on “The Future We Want“, established the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in 2012.
The HLPF is the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. It is the apex of the architecture for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda established by the 2030 Agenda and General Assembly resolution 70/299.
The General Assembly in its resolution 67/290 decided that the Forum meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.
The HLPF 2025 was convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, and was held from Monday, 14 July, to Wednesday, 23 July 2025, in New York. The ministerial segment took place from Monday, 21 July, to Wednesday, 23 July 2025.
The theme for HLPF 2025 was: “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind.”
The Forum conducted an in-depth review of progress towards the following five Sustainable Development Goals, with full appreciation for their integrated, indivisible, and interlinked nature:
- SDG 3: Good health and well-being
- SDG 5: Gender equality
- SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
- SDG 14: Life below water
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
