Celebrating 15 Years of Global Broadband Advocacy

In 2025, the Broadband Commission marks 15 years of high-level advocacy, collaboration, and impact. To commemorate this milestone, the Commission will convene a special anniversary meeting in Geneva on Sunday, 6 July, at the kind invitation of Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Co-Vice Chair of the Commission and Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This high-level gathering will bring together Commissioners from across sectors to reflect on the Commission’s contributions to advancing broadband policy and digital development since its founding in 2010. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the AI for Good Global Summit and WSIS+20 High-Level Event, taking place from 7–11 July 2025.

Meeting Highlights:

  • Reflections on 15 years of broadband impact and global advocacy

  • Personal interventions from Commissioners on broadband’s national, regional, or organizational influence

  • Presentation of a commemorative video and Hall of Fame

The AI for Good Global Summit is the leading action-oriented United Nations platform promoting the use of artificial intelligence to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals. Convened by ITU in partnership with 40 UN agencies and co-convened with the Government of Switzerland, the Summit connects AI innovators with public and private sector decision-makers to identify practical applications of AI that can scale globally. The 2025 edition will take place from 7–11 July at Palexpo in Geneva.

The WSIS+20 High-Level Event will be held from 7 to 11 July 2025 at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland. Co-hosted by ITU and co-organized with UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD, this milestone event will mark twenty years since the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and provide a global platform to assess progress, share best practices, and shape the future of digital cooperation. It aims to strengthen multistakeholder dialogue on ICTs for sustainable development and inform the post-2025 WSIS agenda.
