​The Broadb​and Commission has undertaken many activities and initiatives that focused on broadband as enabler for economic development. It was achieved through the leadership of the Commissioners, dedicated Working Groups outcomes and its work in a form of reports and research. 

This section will allow you to familiarize with the Commission's outcomes which featured financial and economic aspects of the broadband deployment. 


 Latest Reports

The Working Group on Digitalization Scorecard outcome report showcases the results of six case studies of different country-led programs in, Colombia, Finland, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan and Singapore. The programs explored how to accelerate the digitalization for vertical sectors by analyzing policy and regulatory barriers. The case studies provide a useful window into different ways to improve digitalization in different sectors.

 Latest Events/Initiatives

In January, 17 2017 Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development held a Special Session co-hosted with the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The discussion was built around four break-out groups, which contributed to the overall topic of connecting 3.9 billion people to the Internet.

The Broadband Commission presented a discussion paper Connecting the Unconnected issued specifically for the Special Session. 



 Data and Stats

The World in 2017: The ITU ICT Facts and Figures 2017 features end-2017 estimates for key telecommunication/ICT indicators, including data on mobile-cellular subscriptions, Internet use, fixed- and mobile-broadband services, household ICT access, and more. New data show that young people are at the forefront of today’s information society: 830 million young people representing more than 80 per cent of the youth population in 104 countries are online. ITU data inform public and private-sector decision makers, and help ITU accomplish its mission: to make use of the full potential of ICTs for the achievement of the SDGs.


 Highlights on​

 ​​​The Broadband Commission’s Annual The State of Broadband report was released on 14 September 2017 in Geneva.​​​ ​This is a unique global snapshot ​of broadband network access and affordability, with country-by-country data measuring ​broadband access.
