Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud
H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ooredoo (Formerly Qtel Group). In his capacity as Chairman since 2000, His Excellency enjoys the status of State Minister in the State of Qatar.
Sheikh Abdullah has been instrumental in the restructuring and regional expansion of Ooredoo.Since the launch of the company’s expansion strategy in 2005, Sheikh Abdullah has steered the growth of Ooredoo from being a single nation telecom operator to a Group with a presence in 17 countries, spanning from North Africa, Middle East to South East Asia.
After Ooredoo’s key acquisition of the Kuwait-based Wataniya Group in 2007 His Excellency became Chairman of the Wataniya where Ooredoo has a 92% stake.
He also serves as President Commissioner of Indosat (Indonesia), where Ooredoo has a 65% stake.
Prior to joining Ooredoo, Sheikh Abdullah was Chief of the Royal Court (Amiri Diwan) from 2000 to 2005.
A certified pilot instructor from the British Royal Air Force, Sheikh Abdullah has an extensive background in both the military and in aviation.
In 1993 His Excellency completed his graduate studies at the Staff and Command College in Egypt before joining the United States Army War College in Carlisle, PA where he graduated in 1998.
